This soy sauce was jointly developed by the Insect Energy Research Institute, which promotes insect eating, and Yuasa Shoyu, a soy sauce brewer in Yuasa-cho, Wakayama Prefecture, known as the birthplace of soy sauce.
It all started with a joke: "If koji mold can break down the protein in soybeans to make soy sauce, why not ferment silkworm cocoons, which contain a lot of protein, to make soy sauce? It started as a joke.

Applying the fermentation technology of Yuasa Soy Sauce, we made a trial product and found some surprising results...
Silk contains a large amount of sweet amino acids, giving it a sweeter and more delicious taste than conventional soy sauce. The result was a delicious soy sauce with a deep and gentle flavor.

Fibroin, the main component of silk, contains 18 amino acids that support beauty and health, including antioxidant properties, cholesterol control, immunity, and liver function.

Silk is the filamentous mucus that silkworms release from their mouths when they become pupae, and is used to protect their defenseless bodies during metamorphosis.
Raw silk is made by spinning several strands of cocoon silk.

What we use for silk soy sauce is the cocoon ball before it is made into raw silk.
